Amer Yachts’ First 42 Explorer “Even Further” Completes Sea Trials

The 41.45-metre steel explorer has confirmed an 8,900-nautical-mile range and remarkably low fuel consumption during its first open-sea trials.

Amer Yachts has completed the first open-sea trials of Even Further, the inaugural model in the Italian shipyard’s new custom steel explorer range.

Measuring 41.45 metres, the Amer 42 Explorer is the first steel-hulled yacht built by the shipyard. The vessel combines a steel hull with an aluminium superstructure and has been developed for long-distance cruising, demanding itineraries and extended periods at sea.

According to Amer Yachts, the yacht achieved fuel consumption of just 60 litres per hour at 9.5 knots in Eco Mode during testing. With a fuel capacity of 56,300 litres, the shipyard states that Even Further can achieve a range of approximately 8,900 nautical miles in this operating configuration.

Volvo Penta IPS Professional Platform

Even Further is powered by the Volvo Penta IPS Professional Platform, using two IPS40 drives connected to four D13 engines. In Eco Mode, two engines provide propulsion while the remaining units are kept ready to engage as additional power is required.

The D13 engines comply with IMO Tier III requirements. Amer Yachts says the propulsion arrangement also contributes to lower noise and vibration levels, improved manoeuvrability and reduced fuel consumption compared with conventional shaft-driven installations.

During the trials, the yacht reportedly recorded:

  • 9.5 knots: 60 litres per hour in Eco Mode
  • 12.5 knots: 150 litres per hour
  • 14 knots: 280 litres per hour

These figures are particularly notable for a yacht with a reported full-load displacement of approximately 440 tonnes.

Built for Long-Range Exploration

The yacht has been constructed to Ice Class standards and features a high bow intended for offshore and long-range operations.

Her exterior and interior design were developed by Luiz de Basto Designs, while naval engineering and design were completed by Optima Design. The profile combines explorer-yacht functionality with contemporary superyacht styling.

Key design elements include a 17-metre flybridge, a touch-and-go helipad on the foredeck, a wheelhouse offering 270-degree visibility and two integrated cranes, each reportedly capable of lifting up to 8,000 kilograms. The yacht can also carry two eight-metre tenders.

A New Chapter for Amer Yachts

The successful trials represent an important milestone for Amer Yachts as the company expands into the custom steel explorer segment.

The shipyard describes Even Further as the founding model of a new production line focused on bespoke, long-range yachts that combine Italian construction, advanced propulsion technology and reduced environmental impact.

With its steel construction, transoceanic range and unusually low reported fuel consumption, the Amer 42 Explorer positions itself as a technically distinctive new entrant in the growing explorer-yacht market.
